Important 6th Grade Meal Information – Changes Beginning October 1
DMS 6th Grade Families,
We want to make sure families are aware of an upcoming change to school meal costs for our 6th grade students.
Last year, while attending Douglas Upper Elementary School, 5th grade students received regular school breakfast and lunch at no cost to families through a federal school meal program. As students transitioned to Douglas Middle School this year, that meal benefit continued temporarily.
That carryover period ends October 1, 2026.
Beginning October 1, 6th grade students who have not been approved for free or reduced-price meals will begin paying the regular DMS meal prices:
Meal Regular Price Reduced Price
Breakfast $2.00 $0.30
Lunch $4.00 $0.40
Families who believe they may qualify for free or reduced-price meals are encouraged to complete an application before October 1 at myschoolapps.com. Paper applications are also available at the CCSD#1 Central Administration Office.
If an application is not submitted and approved, your student will begin being charged the regular price for breakfast and lunch on October 1, 2026.
One additional clarification: The free meal benefit students have received through September 30 covers a regular breakfast and lunch. Second meals and à la carte items are not included. Students who have chosen to purchase seconds or à la carte items this school year have already been charged for those items.
We wanted to share this information now so families have time to complete an application, if needed, and prepare for the change.

6th, 7th, and 8th grade students traveled to the University of Wyoming for their fall STEM carnival. Students got to explore 50 different hands on stations all about Wyoming landscapes and ecosystems. They also attended a workshop on food webs exploring Nitrogen Isotopes and reptile ecosystems and how they survive our harsh weather. #kit2cat

Traffic Flow – Tuesday, September 8 & Wednesday, September 9
Pearson Road will be closed from approximately Leal St. to Richards St. from 8:00 AM–3:00 PM both days. This may impact traffic flow around DMS, particularly during arrival and dismissal. Please allow a little extra time and use increased patience and caution as we work together to ensure students are dropped off and picked up safely.
As a reminder, please continue to use the designated pick-up and drop-off loop off Richards Street rather than side streets or other parking areas around the school that are not supervised for student arrival and dismissal. Thank you to our families for continuing to use the designated loop and helping us keep these busy times as safe and efficient as possible.
DMS Phone System Upgrade – Tuesday, September 8
DMS will be transitioning to a new phone service Tuesday morning. During the switch, we may be unable to receive incoming phone calls from approximately 9:30–9:50 AM.
If you need immediate assistance during that time, please call the CCSD1 Central Office at 358-2942, and they can relay your message to us.
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued attention to student safety as we navigate both of these temporary disruptions!
